Description |
BW photograph of Sibley Street in Hammond, Indiana in 1915. Photograph includes the following inscription on the back: Contributed by Mrs. Ruth Lowe, Monroe Ave., Ham'd. About 1915. Taken from Sibley Street looking down Morton Court and to the homes on the east side of Morton Court. The large house with the front porch was moved in 1950 to 611 Logan when Carl Kleihege sold it to Warren Reeder. After being there a number of years it was wrecked in the Urban Renewal program about 1966. When moved the roof was cut off to get under wires and it was moved at 3 a.m. in the morning thru downtown Hammond, arriving at 6 a.m. This area is now a parking lot. Notice the street car tracks - the cars wen taround the block, back to State Street and then headed back for the Chicago & 63rd street run. |
